Newport Art History group started in March 2022 with nine people joining initially. A mix of topics was scheduled for the first 6-8 monthly meetings and members agreed to present topics of particular interest to them.
Highlights in the first year included a session on early mark making ( Cave Art) further sessions on Egyptian Art; and another on the Greco/ Romano legacy. We also explored more personal aspects of ‘ What is Art’. Who decides? Discussions can be wide ranging & lively.
Every 6- 8 months we review sessions held to date and plan for the next dates.
Recent sessions have included for example one on Colour; another focusing on particular artists chosen / different styles / women artists and Book illustration, following members interests.
Please note that this is not intended to be an Art Course.
Current membership is 10 with space for one newcomer.
We meet on the first Monday of each month , 10.30- 12.30 at my home address round the kitchen table.
Participation is encouraged by members as we learn from other about this vast subject.
