Membership Renewal

The u3a is a self-help learning group of people no longer in full-time employment which enables members to share many educational, creative and leisure activities.  Socialise, make new friends and enjoy established interests and/or take up new ones.

The University of the Third Age was founded in France at the Faculty of Social Sciences in Toulouse in 1973 and has since become an international organisation. Each country has developed its own style, with an emphasis in the UK on participation by members rather than on formally organised courses. The UK's u3a was founded in 1982 and has been a major success. Today there are over 800 branches and over 318,000 members. u3a neither requires nor awards any qualifications.

Newport u3a was started March 2013 and became fully affiliated to the u3a in August 2013. To date there are over 25 interest groups offering a wide range of social, learning and leisure activities. Over 250 members have joined and membership is growing.

If you would like to learn more about our u3a, an informal Drop-in Coffee Morning morning is held in the snug at The New Inn in Stafford Road every 1st Friday of the month. Anytime between 10.15and 111.30. There will be members there to talk to and show you what is on offer.
